Shooting Sports Field Day 2024
7 Nov by Phil Smith
The annual Shooting Sports Field Day began in 2017 with a partnership between the Frazer Men’s Ministry and the Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officer Association.
The purpose is to introduce safe and responsible use of firearms. Stations included bb guns, rifles, shotguns, archery, and tree stand safety. A highlight for older youth and adults is clay target shooting. Participants are encouraged to fellowship together while enjoying a free hotdog lunch after completing all stations. Youth participants are entered into a drawing for a free Alabama Lifetime Hunting License compliments of ACEOA.
Best practices taught for safe firearm use:
- Always treat a firearm as if it was loaded.
- Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
- Always keep your finger off of the trigger until ready to shoot.
- Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready to use.
- Always be aware of what is behind, beyond, and beside your target before shooting.
- Safety glasses and protective gloves should be used for cleaning firearms.
- Wash hands and face after shooting or cleaning firearms.
